FAQs

Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. All courses, one-off sessions and private lessons must be booked in advance, even if you hold a membership. We will not accept any payments on the door or allow anyone who hasn’t booked to enter the premises. This allows us to comply with social-distancing guidelines and also enables us to obtain the contact details of every person in the building for NHS Test and Trace.

Do I need a partner?
Yes. Unfortunately, we will not be accepting bookings from solo dancers so please arrange to attend with a partner. Partner-swapping is not permitted and staff members will be unable to dance in hold with any customers.

Am I required to wear a mask?
Not for the actual class. However, please wear one when entering and exiting the premises, and any time you step outside your allotted dance space.

Can I book for more than one course?
Yes! You can book for as many as you like. We will keep opening up more lessons each week. The more bookings we receive, the more classes we will be able to hold.

Are the toilet facilities open?
Toilet facilities will be available but if you are familiar with the venue then they may be in a different location than they were previously. You will be made aware of what is available at your class and disinfecting materials will be made available for your use should you need them.

Can I use existing vouchers/memberships?
We appreciate that some of our existing customers may have ongoing vouchers and memberships. Please contact us if you wish to use them to book onto a session or course. We have limited voucher/member slots available for each session as it is essential we are able to cover costs. Like many others, our business has suffered massively since March and the survival of the dance school is dependent on these courses making money. Due to the reduced admission prices of the new classes, it is actually cheaper for you to pay and save your voucher for when things are closer to being back to normal.

What happens if there is a local lockdown?
Courses will be temporarily paused and will resume again when the restrictions are lifted and we feel it is safe to do so. If you have have booked any improver sessions or private lessons, we will get you re-booked in on a day that works for you.

Will you be introducing any more courses to the timetable?
We very much hope so, providing there is the demand for it. We are starting things off slowly and will aim to expand our timetable over the coming weeks and months.

Can I cancel my booking?
No. Spaces are very limited so bookings are non-refundable. However, if we are able to offer your place to another couple, we will issue a refund to you.

What can I do if the course I wanted to join is fully-booked?
Let us know. We will put you on the waiting list in case spaces become available. If we are aware that a course is in high demand, we will adjust our timetable accordingly.

Can I dance the progressive styles (Ballroom, Samba, Paso Doble etc) around the room?
Only in private lessons. In group classes you must stick to your allotted dance space. We will focus more on the Jive, static Latin (Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Salsa etc.) and Argentine Tango styles. However, we will, on occasion, also teach you static Ballroom moves and technique which can be safely practiced within your space.

Do I need to have any previous dance experience?
Not for our beginner courses. They are designed for people who have never stepped onto a dance floor. We appreciate that you may feel a little nervous initially but we will start things off very slowly. Our priority is your enjoyment. We aren’t super strict and we won’t tell you off or embarrass you in any way.

What should I wear?
Comfort is key. Make sure you are wearing clothing and footwear you can move in (many beginners will opt for jeans and pumps/trainers). We would strongly recommend wearing flat shoes initially. You can always invest in a pair of proper dance shoes later down the line. We will be keeping doors and windows open to increase ventilation so please dress warmly during cooler weather.

Do I need to bring my own drink?
Yes. We would recommend bringing a bottle of water to keep yourself hydrated. Some of our regular customers may be used to getting drinks from the bar at The Academy or the kitchen in Christleton but neither of those facilities are available at the moment.

I am struggling to keep up with the pace of the class - what should I do?
Don’t panic. If you are falling behind because you had to miss a week, stick with it. It generally takes however many weeks you missed to catch up again. If you are struggling to keep up with the pace of the class or you don’t understand something, tell us. We may well be able to fix your problem there and then. Otherwise, you may wish to consider booking a private lesson so we can give you our undivided attention and solve whatever the problem may be.
